Job Summary:

Under general supervision, the Quality Chemist performs analytical testing and data analysis in the evaluation of incoming raw material, in-process and finished goods quality to ensure adherence to required product specifications.

 

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and establish a collaborative work environment and the daily work activities of the Laboratory Technician staff in support of departmental projects and initiatives.
  • Maintain and support the calibration program for all laboratory instrumentation and factory weigh scales and provide transparent communication of quality performance and metrics.
  • Provide analytical service, assistance and advice by performing and interpreting analytical tests, approving incoming materials against specifications, designing and conducting Quality Assurance projects or evaluations, compiling data or information and issuing timely reports or otherwise communicating to appropriate personnel.
  • Assure proper calibration and performance of laboratory instrumentation by executing calibration procedures, performing preventive maintenance and monitoring resultant data.
  • Maintain laboratory safety by enforcing and adhering to regulatory, company and departmental guidelines.
  • Delegate the daily work activities of assigned Laboratory Technicians, provide for their training and assess the efficiency and quality of their work in order to achieve departmental expectations.
  • Support the Company’s Quality Systems by adhering to good laboratory practices as defined in policies and operating procedures, participating in Quality Audits and continually reviewing controlled documents to ensure adequacy and correctness.
  • Improve laboratory methodology, departmental procedures, material specifications and process or product quality by recommending revisions based on a review of Quality Assurance project, test or process data.
  • Initiate the acquisition of laboratory instrumentation by assessing analytical requirements, investigating available resources, conducting evaluations, and initiating utilization including appropriate procedural documentation.
  • Provide support in assuring that various process analytical devices are performing properly by developing, executing and auditing calibration procedures, monitoring process data and issuing calibration adjustments as needed.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

 

Job Requirements

Required Minimum Qualifications:

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Natural Science, or related field of study and 3+ years related work Experience or
  • Master’s or Doctorate Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Natural Science, or related field of study and 2+ years related work experience
  • Experience to include, but is not limited to:
    • Performing complex analytical tests, calibrating laboratory instruments, and compiling data
    • Planning, organizing, and prioritizing multiple projects independently

Knowledge of:

  • Intermediate to Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, & PowerPoint) and Microsoft Teams

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience:

  • Experience in an FDA regulated Quality Assurance / Quality Control (QAQC) laboratory

License / Certifications:

  • American Society of Quality certification

 

Work Environment and Physical Demand:

  • Requires moderate physical effort. Occasionally lifts or moves objects up to 10 lbs.
  • Reach and grasp objects / hand eye coordination
  • Stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Walks, sits, or stands for extended periods.
  • Requires prolonged machine operation including vehicle, computer, and keyboard equipment
  • Use of manual dexterity and fine motor skills
  • Identify and distinguish color and shades of color
  • Work with equipment or perform procedures where carelessness may result in injury
  • Experience exposure to uncomfortable work environment due to extreme temperature, noise level, and other conditions including second-hand smoke and/or vape
  • Risk for occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens
