While many folks spend their summer vacation time relaxing, Business Intelligence & Insight Group Manager Gary Howell participated in leading approximately 150 high school students and 40 adult staff on an annual mission trip for the 16th consecutive year. This year the group of more than 190 participants served in clean-up after Hurricane Florence devastated the Wilmington, N.C. area last year.
“The hands-on work including manual labor to repair water damage from the flooding, as well as feeding the homeless who have been displaced due to the storm,” says Gary. Approximately, 15 families benefited from the hard work of these students and at times we have served hundreds of homeless as part of our mission. It is a privilege to lead and support Project Serve in giving back to those who need our help.”
According to the latest Convenience Store News Industry Report, the cigarette segment remains at the top in terms of in-store sales. Further, the Other Tobacco Products (OTP) segment, which includes cigars, comes in fourth, trailing only behind packaged beverages and beer/alcoholic beverages. According to the National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS), for all of 2018, overall convenience store sales surged 8.9%. A lot of that was the result of higher gasoline prices, but inside store sales were up too.
As Convenience Store News reported this week, "It is apparent that today, more than ever, adult consumers have increasing choices when it comes to consuming nicotine."
But the fact remains, cigarettes are still number one when it comes to convenience store consumer goods purchases… and cigars remain strong too.
